Frequently Asked Questions

Should I seek help?

People seek help for a variety of reasons. Some may be relatively easy to define, such as wanting to improve your mood and energy levels, manage anxiety, overcome a fear, strengthen a relationship, or heal from trauma. Others are harder to describe. Sometimes, something just feels off, like your life isn’t quite on track, or you are not who you want to be.

Either way, psychotherapy can help. Seeking psychotherapy is a deeply personal decision, but one that most people are glad to have made. If you are seeking to change your life, we can help.

What is therapy with you like?

It depends. Our providers will listen to your concerns, goals and preference to craft an approach that is specifically tailored to your needs. Sometimes, this might mean taking a structured approach that involves completing specific tasks that are scientifically proven to help you move forward. Other times, you may be encouraged to speak freely about whatever is important to you, to explore in safe environment.

As we get to know you, we will explore which approach is right for you. Our providers will make recommendations and explain the pros and cons of various approaches. This participatory approach fosters effective and personalized therapy.

How can you help me?

We provide expertise in helping people with their mental and emotional wellbeing. This expertise is based on scientifically-proven methods, years of specialized training, and extensive counseling experience.

We are proud to offer help that meets the highest standards for quality and effectiveness. But there is only so much we can do. Ultimately, your progress will depend on your willingness to show up and do the sometimes hard, sometimes frustrating, often joyous, and always rewarding work of looking at yourself and learning. Making an appointment is the first step.

How do I choose a provider?

Research shows that providers vary a lot in how effectively they help people. Sadly, some providers are more likely to hinder than help you reach your goals. There are a couple of ways to make sure you are receiving quality help.

Choosing a provider who understands and cares about you is a good start, but it’s not enough. The best providers will take extra measures to assure that you are moving forward, not just spinning your wheels.

Here at City Center Psychology, we use transparency and dialogue to ensure progress. We will work together with you to create goals and measure these goals in a way that is meaningful to you. This is the only proven method to make sure that your help is actually helping you.

How do you ensure confidentiality?

The services we provide are covered under the same protections as all your medical care (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, or HIPAA). Except under rare circumstances, such as to protect the safety of yourself and others, all information about you, including your participation in treatment, remains between you and us.

At City Center Psychology, we have taken extra steps to keep your information secure, including using internet security measures to protect your data from end-to-end. If you have any concerns about confidentiality, please discuss with your provider.

Do you take insurance?

We are out-of-network providers for most insurance companies. That means you pay the cost of session at the time of service. We will, however, provide you an invoice which you can use to seek reimbursement from your insurance.

What if I can’t wait for an appointment?
